Successful launch of DC dVET Working Tool at the BMZ / Bonn

On July 10th, 2019, more than 60 participants from different BMZ departments, implementing partners, unions, the private sector and UNESCO-UNEVOC discussed about the engagement of the business sector in vocational education and training (VET).

At the beginning of the event, Prof. Dr. D. Euler presented the cornerstones of the publication “Engaging the Business Sector in VET: Working Tool for Policy Dialogue and Project Design in Development Cooperation” that he wrote on behalf for the DC dVET. He also explained how the two parts of the Working Tool are linked: the study (part 1) offers a comprehensive overview on where, how and under what conditions the business sector can be involved in VET. The questionnaire (part 2) enables people who reply to transfer key elements of the study to their work. In addition, it facilitates the systematic planning, analysis and further development of the VET projects and ideas.

The second part of the event was opened with two voices from the field: Oana Vodita from GIZ Moldova and Usha Bhandari from SDC Nepalboth shared their experiences with the Working Tool, how it has been supportive to their work, but also what challenges they faced (their and other appraisals can be found here). In the following panel discussion, Tobias Mühler (GIZ), Martin Wilde (Don Bosco Mondo), Dr. Evelina Parvanova (HWK Koblenz), Dr. Tobias Lechtenfeld (BMZ department 110), and Prof. Dr. Dieter Euler discussed concrete challenges in working with the business sector in partner countries and answered numerous questions from the participants in the plenary.

Dr. Marion Edel (Department 402 and representative of the BMZ in the DC dVET) summarized the event as follows: „The engagement of the business sector ensures a needs-oriented VET and is thus essential for development cooperation.“ She also encouraged the participants to use the Working Tool, to provide feedback on it and to contact the DC dVET secretariat for any questions and use the other products and services that DC dVET offers.
