SUMMARY:Advancing a Greener and Productive Future through Skills: Introducing the SPEED Methodology (ILO)
DESCRIPTION:The Skills for Productivity\, Environment and Economic Diversification (SPEED) methodology is the ILO’s updated sectoral approach to anticipating and addressing skills needs in the context of the green transition. Building on more than a decade of experience with the Skills for Trade and Economic Diversification (STED) methodology\, SPEED provides a systematic\, sector focused framework to identify current and future skills needs\, diagnose system‑wide constraints\, and support sectoral development that is productive\, environmentally sustainable and socially inclusive. \n  \nThis webinar will present the core elements of the SPEED approach\, explain how it integrates environmental sustainability with sectoral development\, and highlight its practical application through country experience from Ghana and Namibia. Participants will gain insights into how SPEED can support skills diagnostics\, policy alignment\, stakeholder engagement and actionable recommendations and implementation.

SUMMARY:BarCamp Informality & dual VET - Building resilient funding models for dual vocational education and training (VET) in informal economies
DESCRIPTION:Dear partners of DC dVET and the ILO\,   \nMany countries continue to rely heavily on families and the public sector to finance formal TVET\, while MSMEs often lack the resources to invest in training. Thoughtfully designed financial and nonfinancial incentives can help engage the private sector – but only when built on solid foundational measures and aligned with intrinsic motivations. To advance this crucial discussion\, DC dVET and the ILO are joining forces to explore resilient and sustainable financing models for dual VET in informal economies. Please join us for our 4th BarCamp:  \nBuilding resilient funding models for dual vocational education and training (VET) in informal economies – towards quality and transition  \nTuesday\, 24th February 2026\, 11:00 – 13:00 CET  \n  \nWhy join?  \n\nExchange on a wide range of topics: from demand- and supply-side financing schemes\, public-private partnerships\, to practical strategies and success factors for sustainable funding. \n\n\nEngage in dynamic breakout sessions and open dialogue with peers from policy\, practice\, academia\, and development cooperation. \n\n\nShare your own experiences and contribute to collective learning on sustainable VET financing.  \n\n\nCo-develop actionable recommendations to strengthen financing systems beyond donor support and ensure better transitions for young people and workers in the informal sector. \n\nProgramme highlights:  \n\nKeynote impulses from international experts such as Salim Akoojee and Patrick Werquin\, co-authors of the ILO/GIZ Think Piece on Apprenticeship Development in Africa\, as well as Robert Palmer tbc (among others ILO’s recent study )\, Prof. Markus Maurer and Xiaoyan Liang form the World Bank.  \n\n\nBreakout sessions on resilient financing\, demand- and supply-side models\, and indirect financing mechanisms via intermediaries. \n\n\nCollaborative discussions and networking \n\nPlease register here:  https://events.teams.microsoft.com/event/7403d19a-633e-4c0e-973e-9daca7e16b4a@3c3f86ab-a5ee-402e-8dfa-4d75dbabb024  \n  \nWe look forward to your participation in shaping the future of dual VET in informal economies!  \nBest regards\,\n  \nThe DC dVET and ILO Teams

SUMMARY:FoBBIZ Talk: Establishing Sector Skills Committees in Albania
DESCRIPTION:How do you build a system that aligns skills with real labor-market needs? In Albania\, this challenge is being met through the creation of Sector Skills Committees (SSCs) — collaborative platforms that bring together employers\, training providers\, and institutions to shape vocational and educational standards. In this FoBBIZ Talk\, Ermira Shyti\, Labor Market Advisor and Ex-Team Leader for Skills\, Career Guidance and Intermediation at Helvetas Albania youth employment project supported by SDC\, will share how her team helped pilot the very first SSC in the ICT sector\, and how this model took root under the leadership of the National Agency for Vocational Education and Training and Qualifications. \nErmira will reflect on what it took to establish a functioning committee\, how the approach was sustained even after project support ended\, and how the tourism SSC was successfully formed and has been operating for two years. \nFoBBIZ Talk: Establishing Sector Skills Committees in Albania — FoBBIZ

SUMMARY:Online debate: "Rethinking Priorities: The Future of Dual VET in International Cooperation"
DESCRIPTION:Dear colleagues of the DC dVET & FoBBIZ\, \nWe are pleased to remind you about our invitation to an online debate titled: \n“Rethinking Priorities: The Future of Dual VET in International Cooperation” \nThis event is jointly organized by DC dVET and FoBBIZ \nEvent Details: \nWednesday\, June 11\, 2025 at 14:00 – 16:00 hrs CET \nEnglish (German/French subtitles) \nIs it necessary to reassess the priorities in (dual) Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Switzerland’s official development cooperation? \nTwo Swiss experts\, Prof. Markus Maurer and Prof. Dieter Euler\, give different answers and recommendations to this question. Markus Maurer suggests focusing less on poverty-oriented\, dual training models and instead promoting higher qualification levels and solid basic education to meet the actual needs of labor markets in partner countries (Article in german) \nConversely\, Dieter Euler advocates for continuing to strengthen dual VET and aligning it closely with labor market needs to contribute to poverty reduction (Article in german) \nConsidering decreasing budgets and changing political conditions\, this debate will explore how international VET cooperation should prioritize in the future. It will also address the implications of current budget cuts for the responsibility and role of German-speaking donor countries in VET cooperation. \nThe debate between Prof. Dr. Markus Maurer and Prof. Dr. Dieter Euler will be followed by an expanded discussion featuring representatives from academia and donor institutions from Germany and Austria such as: \n\nMargarita Langthaler\, Senior Researcher at ÖFSE\, Austria\nBritta Lambertz\, Head of Section Education\, Vocational Education and Training\, Labour Markets at GIZ\, Germany\nRalf Hermann\, Head of GOVET (German Office for International Cooperation in VET) at BIBB (Federal Institute for Vocational Education)\, Germany\n\nThis event is aimed at policy-level actors\, experts in international vocational education and training\, and donor institutions. \nRegister here!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe look forward to your participation in an inspiring discussion. \nBest regards on behalf of the DC dVET and FOBBIZ

SUMMARY:Conference “Skills for Green and Just Transitions – Potential and Challenges with a Focus on Africa and South Eastern Europe”
DESCRIPTION:Keynote speakers: Presha Ramsarup (University of Witwatersrand\, South Africa\, online)\, Alessandra Molz (ILO Budapest) \nOne of the challenges is the absence or weakness of the required skills for these transitions\, or even the knowledge about which skills are and will be needed. This calls for an enhanced role for Vocational Education and Training (VET) as well as skills development. Yet\, particularly in low and middle income countries VET systems are confronted with manifold challenges.  The event shall discuss the potential and challenges of VET and skills development for green and just transitions from various angles. It intends to bring together the academic community\, policy makers as well as civil society organisations in a dialogue\, which shall range from broad societal questions to the discussion of successful implementation. In particular\, it shall discuss issues of labour market relevance\, social inclusion and justice. It will focus discussions on Sub-Sahara Africa and South-East Europe.
